The Barre Body Studio method is low-impact, high-energy workout focused on building long, lean muscles, tightening the tush and strengthening the core. Using mostly body weight, light free weights and resistance bands, repetitions exert muscles to the point of fatigue, making this a highly effective type of fitness. Every class is choreographed to upbeat music and take space in an uplifting group environment, make it just as fun as it is effective.
If you’ve checked out our schedule, you may have noticed a few different class styles available. What’s the difference between Barre Body Fit and Barre.Tone.Sweat? Find out and learn about all class types here.
We recommend wearing athletic wear (think yoga or dance wear) that you can get comfortable and move it.
Grip socks are required in the studio to prevent injuries and help you get the most out of all the precise, controlled movements.
If you have your own, bring ‘em - otherwise, we see them. And, if it’s your first class, don’t worry, we have loaners for $1 with proceeds going to a local charity!
You’re gonna sweat, so bring water to stay hydrated. Come in your favourite workout gear and don’t forget those grip socks! We provide everything else.
Your will be sore after first trying a class, that’s how you know it’s working - but we don’t promote injury, or pushing beyond your fitness levels so much so that you go once and never return.
As with anything in life, steady progress builds momentum and strength over time - through experience, not overexertion.
We’re proud to offer a welcoming, non-judgmental fitness environment, to participate within your own expanding limits and most importantly - always listen to your body.
Our knowledgeable barre tenders are here to help you - not hurt you. There are many modifications for each movement because everyone has to start somewhere. And wherever you’re at, is exactly where you’re supposed to be.
Nobody walks into the studio a pro, part of the fulfilment is in tracking your progress and witnessing real change over time.
For your first class, try to arrive 15 minutes early, every class after that 10 minutes is enough time to get ready. When you arrive at the studio, let the front desk staff know that it's your first time so they can get you set-up. They’ll guide you to our free, secure lockers where you’re welcome to safely store your personal items during class.
To set up, grab a set of light weights (we usually recommend 2lb or 3lb weights for your first few classes) and any other equipment that is specified by your instructor. Take these with you and find your spot at the barre. Don’t worry about the mats quite yet, your instructor will ask you to grab one later on in the class.
Plié, pelvic tuck, 4th position, twizzler bands – what does it all mean? Don’t stress over the terminology, everything will be well explained and demonstrated by your barre tender during the class. We promise you'll pick it up in no time!
Be sure to inform your instructor of any injuries or ailments before class begins. We encourage you to ask questions and receive modifications from our very knowledgeable barre tenders.
You’re now ready to take on your first barre class – be prepared to sweat, surprise yourself and have a ton of fun! Remember, you don’t need a strong dance or athletic background to attend. Barre is absolutely suitable for all shapes, sizes and fitness levels
