Benefits of Barre

Blog - barre benefits

There are so many benefits to exercise. We know this. There are also a lot of benefits of barre fitness, in particular. Increased flexibility, strength, coordination, weight loss. We know those too. We wanted to know the REAL benefits, the things our Tribe were noticing happening to them! So we asked and this is what you had to say:

OUR FAVS

  • As an older client, I needed something to stay fit and healthy. Barre exceeded my expectations. I am recovering from a shoulder injury and in just a few short months I have more range of motion and strength than I ever imagined I could have again. I also feel so strong and healthy and never feel out of place or "old" when I come to BBS. Being in class with majority younger clients, I was worried I wouldn't be able to keep up but barre makes me feel so confident and worthy.
  • I was able to do full squats and lunges all through my active labour and feel great!
  • It's the one workout that I actually like coming to
  • I don’t murder people (click here)

COMMUNITY

  • It's a great workout but also socially interactive
  • My barre friends have become my real life friends

MIND, BODY & SOUL

  • It pushes me but I can still come every day
  • Inner strength
  • My butt looks better
  • I always feel like I'm in a better mood when I leave
  • It resets me
  • I don't have to think about what to do/don't have to plan my own workout
  • I lost a lot of weight and feel great about myself
  • I don't worry about re-injuring or injuring myself anymore when doing other activities because I feel so strong from barre!
  • Barre gets me energerized and ready for the day

What are your barre benefits? Send us a note on social media and let us know, we always love hearing from you.

XO,
The BBS Team

Congrats on 1,000 Classes, Stefanie!

Blog - Tribe Milestones

We are SO proud to give one of our Tribe members a BBS shout out and say CONGRATULATIONS on hitting the 1,000 class milestone! This is such a huge accomplishment! To put it into perspective, we have been open for just over 4 years - or 1,460 days - and they have walked through our door and taken class on 1,000 of them. WOW!

Congrats Stefanie on reaching this awe-inspiring milestone at BBS! Your commitment and hard work in each and every class gives us energy and keeps us going. We thank you for that. We are honoured to have you in our Tribe. You are a constant source of inspiration and motivation to the rest of our Tribe, each and every one of our instructors and front desk team.

We chatted with Stefanie after her 1,000th class and her words humbled us so we wanted to share them with all of you:

I really couldn't have achieved 1,000 classes on my own, and I certainly didn't do them alone. The instructors & tribe members were right there with me; this is as much their accomplishment as mine.

Not so long ago, I was a member of the Calgary Stampeder Outriders. I was not a dancer growing up, so auditioning for the team was a leap (and to be honest, a bit of a dare!) but joining the team, and being part of that community had an amazing impact on my life. It improved my confidence, discipline, public speaking; it got me involved in Calgary volunteer activities and generated many friendships and relationships that I still cherish today.  When I stopped Cheerleading I filled my time with other things; you know the usual routines. Taking my daughter to dance, soccer car pool, house/yard work, going to the gym (boring!). It wasn't until I found Barre Body Studio that I realized that I missed that atmosphere of group activity and comradery. How could you not smile after 60 mins of choreographed, synchronized booty shaking to Flashdance!?

To be successful and consistent with any exercise program you have to find something that you love, that doesn't feel like work and just do it (as often as you can)! 400, 600, 1000; the milestones sneak up on you when you love the experience, the people and the environment.

Our community partner, Total Skincare Centre, has generously gifted Stefanie with a complimentary 90 minute facial and gift basket. You earned it! A big thanks to TSC for helping us celebrate our Tribe and this incredible milestone.

Congrats on 1,000 Classes, Selma!

WOW!

Congrats to Selma for your dedication to yourself, your fitness journey and the BBS Tribe. We are so lucky to have you and we are better because of you. You are a constant source of inspiration and motivation to the rest of our Tribe, each and every one of our instructors and front desk team.

We asked Selma what made her push for 1,000 classes and her response is really the reason we do what we do. She told us "it has never been the number for me and I have never counted my classes! What motivates me is the energy & strength I feel after each class!". Selma also mentioned that "the teachers are amazing and have inspired me to push myself to places I never ever thought I could go! There is nothing more beautiful than when you prove to yourself how strong you are!". We couldn't have said it better ourselves.

Throughout day two we will discuss different teaching styles, what it takes to be an effective fitness leader, using music effectively in your classes, and how to properly cue, sequence and transition to ensure your flow from start to finish.

Barre 101

Blog - BBS Basics_copy1

Sometimes, when we get used to doing things over and over, we let habit and automation take over and we find ourselves just going through the motions. This can happen in our exercise too. We've all had an off day where we catch ourself "going through the motions" in class, and not really connecting with what movements our body is making and why. With the 30 in 30 Challenge just underway, here is the first instalment of Barre 101! We hear this "shop" talk in every class, so here's a quick reminder of what these terms really mean:

Social - Barre 101

So next time your barre tender tells you to pulse, pulse, tuck ... take a moment ... breathe in and close your eyes.

Connect with what you are doing ... engage your muscles from the inside out and feel yourself getting stronger.

Barre Star Chantelle

Blog - Hall of Fame

We are so excited to welcome barre star, Chantelle, into the BBS Hall of Fame. Chantelle has been a part of our tribe for just over a year and we wanted to catch up with her and find out how her first year has been! Here's what Chantelle had to tell us:

"As a mama of four and a former dancer, barre has honestly been the perfect workout for me. I remember my very first class thinking "oh gawd, my sphincter hurts, I didn't even know I had muscles there!". Barre has also been amazing for my pelvic floor, and again being overly candid, I went from peeing every time I jumped to doing jumping jacks without a trickle! (Which is a huge feat as most of you mamas out there know). I'm also a runner and ran my first half marathon last Spring and barre provided my muscles with the strength and support they needed to get me through un-injured. I love the studio and all the beautiful instructors, who shine from the inside out. I plan to keep on pulsing and plieing for many years to come. Oh, and the added bonus, my bum is cuter too! Thanks BBS, you honestly rock."

HOF - Chantelle_copy

Chantelle, YOU ROCK. Thanks for being a part of our tribe and for taking the time to share your experience with us and the rest of our amazing community. We love hearing how barre has made you stronger, and you're right...the cute bum doesn't hurt! ;)

Want to share your story with us? We want to hear it! Send us an email at calgary@barrebodystudio.com and share away. We can't wait to connect!
